Israeli forces have shot dead a Palestinian in the north of the Gaza Strip, Palestinian medics and officials say, the first such case since a 50-day war ended in August.
The victim was identified as Fadel Mohammed Halawa, 32.
He was reported to have been farming or searching for birds that nest close to the boundary with Israel.
Israel’s military said it had fired warning shots before shooting at two people approaching the security fence.
Israel maintains a no-go buffer zone along the perimeter inside Gaza which it says is necessary to prevent militant attacks.
The Palestinian health ministry said Sunday’s incident happened east of the Jabaliya refugee camp. One medical official said the shots appeared to have been fired from a watchtower.
The war in Gaza this summer left more than 2,100 Palestinians dead, most of them civilians, according to the UN. Sixty-seven Israeli soldiers and six civilians died.
